New law against undocumented immigrants. What does it consist of?

The new law imposed by Governor Ron DeSantis was approved and comes into effect on July 1. This is what we know.

This Tuesday, the state’s governor, Ron DeSantis, signed the legislation, which has become the strongest law against illegal immigration in the country. “Biden’s border crisis has wreaked havoc on the United States and endangered Americans,” he said.

This new law will come into effect on July 1, 2023, implementing strong measures against illegal immigrants. They will expand the requirements to companies that have more than 25 employees using E-verify, it is a federal system that helps determine if the person has all the complete requirements to work legally in the United States.

On the other hand, immigrants with an unregulated immigration status will no longer be able to rely on driver’s licenses from other states. If another state issued a license to an undocumented immigrant who could not prove lawful presence in the United States, that person is prohibited from operating a motor vehicle in Florida.

Senate Bill 1718 also focuses on the crime of human trafficking when it involves a minor, when it involves more than five people, and when the defendant has a prior conviction for human trafficking. This bill also adds the crime of human smuggling to the list of crimes allowed for prosecution.

The new legislation will also require each hospital that accepts Medicaid to include a question on admission or registration forms that asks whether the patient is a US citizen, legally present in the US or not.
